How We BeganAlpha Chi Omega is a women's fraternity that was founded on October 15, 1885 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. There are currently 135 chapters around the country and over 200,000 lifetime members. Alpha Chi Omega's colors of scarlet red and olive green were chosen to commemorate the fraternity's fall founding. The symbol is a lyre (a musical instrument) and the official flower is a red carnation. The Mission for Alpha Chi Omega is to embody a national women's organization that enriches the lives of its members through lifetime opportunities of friendship, leadership, learning, and service. Currently, the ladies of Alpha Chi are involved in over eighty on campus organizations outside of our chapter. It is through this mission that sisters of Alpha Chi share such strong bonds and memories that will forever shape the outcome of their lives.

Our Goal
Alpha Chi Omega, we’re about finding and shaping real, strong women. This has been our slogan since our re-branding in 2008, but it’s been our reality since 1885. Being an Alpha Chi means being a part of an organization that allows individuals to be themselves, to learn how to make the most of their life, and to realize their greatest potential and run with it. It means every individual receives the encouragement, inspiration, fun, and friendship of 200,000 other real, strong women at their side. It means that each member gets a four-year collegiate learning and leadership program that supplements and complements what she’ll get from her college or university. It means she’ll have opportunities for lifetime leadership and engagement with real, strong women who are making a difference for themselves, their fellow members, and the world around them.
